How to use learnspense
A step-by-step walkthrough to go from first visit to confident expense tracking — no account, no setup, no friction.
learnspense is built around a simple idea: tracking your spending should be easy enough that you actually stick with it. There are no accounts to create, no bank connections to set up, and no complicated budgets to configure. Here is exactly how to get started and make the most of the app.
Set up your categories
When you first open learnspense, the app is ready to go. Expenses are organized into categories — food, transportation, entertainment, utilities, and more. You can use the default categories or customize them to match how you actually spend. Having the right categories from the start makes tracking easier and your insights more meaningful.
Add your first expense
Click the add button, pick a category, enter the amount, and hit calculate. That is it. The expense is recorded instantly and stored in your browser. You can add a note if you want more context later, but it is optional. The goal is to make entry fast enough that you actually do it — not to build a detailed ledger.
Build the habit daily
Consistency matters more than precision. Aim to log expenses as they happen or at the end of each day. The daily budget feature on the home screen shows you at a glance how much you have left for the day, which helps you make spending decisions in real time rather than looking back a month later and wondering what happened.
Review your dashboard
Switch to the Dashboard tab to see your spending patterns over time. You will find charts that break down your expenses by category, show trends across weeks or months, and highlight where your money is actually going. The dashboard turns raw numbers into a clear picture — you will quickly spot which categories are taking more than you realized.
Check your history and roll back mistakes
Everyone enters the wrong amount or picks the wrong category sometimes. The history panel shows every expense you have logged, and you can undo or correct any entry. If you accidentally logged an expense twice or put something in the wrong category, you can fix it without starting over.
Things to keep in mind
- Your data stays in your browser. Clearing your browser storage will erase your expense history — consider exporting a backup regularly.
- The app works offline once loaded. You do not need a constant internet connection to add or review expenses.
- Categories and preferences are saved locally, so they persist between visits as long as you use the same browser.
